Dealing with Uncertainty

There are many joys my business gives me, but in life there’s no free lunch. Now I’m in one of those periods where the uncertainty in business has become a bit more prominent than before, waiting for the outcome of several key new proposals, while some projects and engagements are ending. I’ve also got a few team members on my payroll - not many, but more than two.

I’m somewhat comfortable with the cashflow aspect of this uncertainty now & I’m sure there are other strategies that I will learn and implement over time for that. However I’m still working on the psychological aspect of it - how can I become more comfortable with it?

Let’s see what ideas emerge..

  1. Notice and Celebrate the wins

Gratitude - What has gone well this week, this month, this year?

A gratitude journal and a gratitude jar - these are key anchoring practices I have yet to implement. Now is the time to start.

What blessings have my business given me? Freedom to learn, freedom to travel, freedom to connect with like minded people, freedom to build my own tribe. Freedom to structure my own schedule, freedom to spend more quality time with the family.

It’s time to be more granular about this, by noticing and anchoring myself in it.

  1. Talk about it

Being an introvert, my tendency is to process my thoughts and feelings within, which is both unhealthy and healthy. My preference is to use meditation, philosophy, journaling and grounding techniques to process difficult feelings. Perhaps I need to add more to this toolkit.

I do have mentors who have walked on this path - it’s time to be more open with them about my doubts and fears too, not necessarily trying to be confident all the time. I should also think through which friends I can safely open up to.

  1. What is within my control?

Serendipity. This is the main answer to how I have been getting my clients. Being at the right place at the right time. Being authentic, being joyful, being grounded.

To be, that is what I have within my control. Being in a state of flow, I allow myself to flow, and the flow takes me forward.

Accept the uncertainty, embrace it. I do not have control over my client’s decision, their budget, their strategy and my competition (if any).

Remember the why..I’ve made this a little easier for myself with this blog. Time to read my old posts again

  1. Invest more time in my Hobbies

I should spend more time not thinking about business (oh my, blasphemy!!). It’s okay to spend time in activities that are not “productive” (can you imagine that??).

Yes..hustling more in my mind is not going to magically result in increased revenues and scale.

Analysing the fog is not going to make the fog disappear - I just need to wait for it to clear. And it does clear.

Hmm, these seem like good ideas - will look into them….
