Find Joy in Your Actuarial Studies!

We learn so much better when we’re having fun - Teachers of kindergartens and primary school children know this so well...

Actuarial Science is boring you say? Well, for one, if you truly feel so why did you take this studies up??

True, some parts of our actuarial studies are quite dry..but that doesn’t give us an excuse to not find ways to spice things up!

Some methods you can try:

1. Teach what you have learned to your mum or dad or siblings - teaching helps us learn much better, and a key skill needed by actuaries is to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences (at least your parents may stop nagging you to study because they get scared of you)

2. Build a spreadsheet model of the concept you have learned - may not be directly needed for the exam, but you learn to apply it then

3. Look up the latest research in the topic you’re studying

4. Have a list to memorise? Turn it into a string of funny acronyms (don’t be afraid to go silly, it’s your own list after all), or turn it into a silly sentence or song (I memorised the colours of the rainbow in a very silly sentence in primary school and still can’t get it out of my head)

What other ways can you think of to have fun while studying?
