The Drifting piece of Bark

Splish, splash, I bob along,

Memories of my past are fading away,

I know not when I fell into this river,

I forget who I was before this river,

It flows quickly, it flows slowly,

So many sights, so many sounds,

So many friends, so many strangers,

Some follow along a while,

Some drift apart after a moment..

Slowly yet surely, the water enters into me,

It softens me, it takes away parts of me,

The water bubbles in me,

Bubbles of joy, joy without reason,

Slowly yet surely, the river and I become one..

I fade away, but what’s that? I’m becoming clearer!

The I of the hapless piece of bark, gives way now,

The I of the mighty river, is taking hold now,

The I that is gentle, the I in all that drift,

The I that ceases to trouble, the I that rests in joy..
