The Paradox of Time

Time, oh time, what a wonder you are...

Time and again we think we have plenty of you...

Only for us to look back and exclaim "Oh, how quickly time has passed!"

When we are having the time of our lives, you pass so quickly!

In times of difficulty, when we wish time goes by quickly, every minute feels like an hour...

So many a time, we feel a pain too heavy to bear...

And then time passes by, and you have made it light!

Patience is a virtue, they say...

Indeed we need to wait for the right time,

Before many things that we wish for, come to pass...

Time, you simply watch, as various events big and small happen in front of you,

Indeed a sage you must be, for what is it have you not seen?

You have seen children grow up and then their children and theirs too...

You have seen empires rise and fall, the low and weak rise to conquer, the mighty biting the dust...

You have seen how it all began, and perhaps many beginnings and ends beyond that...

No time is short for you, no time is long...

Now tell me the secret, how can I escape your grasp?

Time and again I tread this cycle, day and night...

Running like a hamster, chasing dreams...

Some may be fulfilled, some may not,

Thinking of the past, thinking of the future...

Dreams, all bound by time...

All the while forgetting, my time is short too!

Surely there's a secret, that you keep in your heart,

What lies beyond, beyond your domain of time?

I find the keenest joy, when I seem to forget time,

Is there a way to go beyond you, once and for all?

Oh be quick, tell me now...

Before I run out of time!
