Graver gasped.."We're here!"
Finally after months of voyage through the inter-versal portal, the destination was visible.
Graver's team mates on Norwhal V stirred awake slowly and made their way to the observation deck..
The last trip by the previous team had some concerning notes - a terrible world war, the invention and use of a devastating weapon..
Graver gulped.."I hope things are better now" he thought as he opened the cooler for a refreshing tonic, before joining his mates on the deck.
They had strict instructions to not be visible and to not intervene, no matter how bad events may be...and this was always so so hard..
The team was really rooting for this planet.
About 5000 years ago, when physicists made the breakthrough finding of the multiverse and the way to traverse it, they first sought to find out how they can prevent extinction by examining extinction events in various spheres. This particular Earth shocked them to no end. An extremely catastrophic event had wiped the entire dinosaur lineage out millions of years ago and charted a completely new course for the planet, leaving only the birds as descendants.
The Mammalia class which were food and domesticated pets at home, here somehow had evolved to produce an intelligent species.
The terrible Rex species somehow evolved to become chickens eaten all the time..yes eating those terrible Rexes would be nice..the Troodonians loved this twist of fate in this planet.
Evolution at home had a very different outcome. Though the Troodonians had evolved to become self aware, the world around them was harsh and extremely dangerous with dangers lurking in every corner on land and in the seas. As such they simply focused on survival for eons, till travelling to the moon and terraforming it became possible.
A race of scientists, mathematicians and spacefarers, the thought of being the apex species of the planet and conquering nature was very strange to them, as they were essentially refugees from the harsh nature of their own planet.
The wisdom of their ancients had taught them to simply observe and learn from the nature of their own harsh planet, appreciate its beauties, and appreciate the precious gifts of life and wisdom.
The Earth in this universe (U 108) was particularly interesting to the troodons, so a team came over every 50-70 years or so to record observations...
"Look Graver! Isn't it beautiful?"
Graver, startled by the sweet voice, looked up and couldn't speak...
"The Oort Cloud over there, you dummy!"
Ah yes, the Oort Cloud, always so pretty...so pretty it hurts..the Oort Cloud yes yes...
