The Silent Observers - ep 2

Previously: Episode 1

The Oort Cloud was a breathtaking sight..it shimmered like a red ruby necklace studded with green emeralds, a sprinkling of blue pearls...trillions of shining and shimmering treacherous rocks and gas clouds which appeared as multi coloured strings interweaving between the rocks..a necklace crafted by the divine, for the divine..

The observatory deck was fitted with lenses that converted light and rays of a wide variety of spectrums into a dazzling view...truly a sight to behold..

Varda was explaining the intricate details about the Oort Cloud to the crew members with so much passion..Graver was immensely proud of her and how much she had learned and accomplished in the past few years since joining the team..perhaps he felt more than just pride? No, no he can't..he can't..back to work..

The analysis of radio frequencies emitted from humans were being analysed and translated into reports and insights using AI programs. The first batch of key insights were ready.

The crew were to spend 2 weeks at this outpost outside the Oort Cloud well outside the reach of humans analysing data on economics, geopolitics, climate, society, scientific and astronomical progress. Then based on what they find, they will cautiously enter the Solar System at the next jump point on Pluto.

Graver started listening and jotting down notes. He turned on his favourite classical music playlist and immersed into the work...

2 weeks later..

"Varda, what do you think about our plan of action?"

"It looks good - I'll make some adjustments to our jump points and pathway, there are mathematically more optimal routes.

Honestly I'm surprised humans have made so little progress in astronomy. Only some low tech unmanned probes in the last 50 years...better telescopes..50 years since the last human on the moon Graver, 50 years! If only these dingbats focused more on advancing themselves rather than killing themselves with useless wars and short sighted economic exploitation!"

"Varda, this whole thing about not interfering...what if we nudge them a little here, and a little there"

"Graver! You know there are good reasons why we shouldn't do that!"

"I know, I'm just so dejected by where humans are heading towards..so much promise.. they had everything we didn't have..and yet somehow they are throwing it all away"

Varda held Graver's hand "It will be fine Graver..the ways of the Divine are mysterious, ours is not to ask why, but to observe and learn"

(To be continued...)
